How the Common Elections Work
Common election explained...
A common election allows people in every corner of the globe to choose their community representative (c-rep). This person will represent a local area (constituency) for up to five years. There is a choice of several candidates in each constituency. The candidate who receives the most votes becomes your community leader.
Who are the candidates in my constituency?
After the deadline for nominations has passed, a list of the candidates standing is usually posted on this website and local noticeboards where you live.
When is the next common election?
The date of the next common election has not yet been announced. The maximum term of a c-rep is five years from the day the community leader is elected. The current c-rep was elected on Tuesday, 18 December 2019, and will automatically dissolve on Tuesday, 18 December 2024.
How To Enter The UK Commons Election
To participate in the Commons election, you must be a Global citizen and registered with the Commons Commission. You can register with the Commons Commission by downloading the application form provided below. After completing the form, please return it via email to info@globaldissent.org. Registration with the Commons Commission is free of charge.

After the election...
What happens after the election?
Once elected, you will receive a welcome pack introducing you to your new role. This pack will include a badge, a guidance and advice booklet, a notepad and pen, and your own physical ID as proof of your position as an elected C-REP. Your responsibilities will involve attending events, liaising with community elders, and assisting constituents with their issues by representing their interests within local government departments.
How do I find events to attend?
Whenever there is an event that we think you will be interested in, we will advertise it on our website and provide you with details about the location, time, date, theme, and duration of each event. The decision to attend these events is completely up to you. You are also welcome to attend events that are not listed on our site.
